Talkin' Blues foregår i biblioteket i Bok & Blueshuset under Notodden Blues Festival.

Fredag 4. august

15:00 TALKIN’ BLUES med Little Steven
Artisten, låtskriveren, produsenten og arrangøren Steven Van Zandt a.k.a.

Dobbel Grammy-vinner Tom Hambridge (f.

Williams Jr., BB King, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Meat Loaf, Johnny Winter, George Thorogood, Susan Tedeschi,.

TALKIN’ BLUES SESSIONS AT NOTODDEN BLUES FESTIVAL 4-5 AUGUST 2017. '
ALL SESSIONS TAKE PLACE INTHE LIBRARY AT BOK & BLUESHUSET.

FRIDAY AUGUST 4TH

13:00 - TALKIN’ BLUES with Charlie Musselwhite and Kid Andersen
Charlie Musselwhite learned his style of the Blues from frequenting  the Blues clubs on the south and west side of Chicago. Together with Paul Butterfield and Mike Bloomfield he saw Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf and other Blues pioneers perform at clubs in the black areas of the city. All three learned all that they could from the Blues Masters, and since then have taken their Blues music to a large commercial public fan base through their best selling recordings and tours. Musselwhite is a true creator of style and is a Blues Ambassador in the highest degree, at the same time that he is the most recognized and awarded harmonica player within Blues music today. You might call him the B.B. King of harmonica!
Norwegian Christoffer Lund ‘Kid’ Andersen is from Herre in Telemark, and in a relatively short period of time has become nothing less than a sensation in American Blues music. Kid did just the same as Vidar Busk, moving to the USA as a young and aspiring guitarist. That was about 15 years ago, and during these years he has slowly but surely built up a reputation as one of America’s best Blues guitarist, not in the least as part of bands that include Charlie Musselwhites’s, as well as Rick Estrin & the Nightcats, where he took over the guitar job after Little Charlie Baty. In addition, Kid has established Greaseland Studio where a number of critically acclaimed recording have been made, such as Wee Willie Walker’s “If Nothing Ever Changes”. Kid also has been nominated for a number of Blues Awards during the past several years.
Now these two musical comrades sit down together in a conversation that is guaranteed to have a number of great stories!

15:00 - TALKIN’ BLUES with Little Steven
Artist, Songwriter and Producer Steven Van Zandt, also known as Little Steven / Miami Steve is an icon in American music. He is the stylistic creator of The New Jersey Sound together with Southside Johnny, characterized by soul inspired rock with horns. Since the 1970s Little Steven has been Bruce Springsteen’s secret weapon in the E-Street Band, one of the keys to Springsteen’s success in his classic albums from that period where Steven was a co-producer. After establishing himself as a solo artist in the 1980s (Disciples of Soul, Sun City), as well as an acclaimed actor beginning in the 1990s (Sopranos, Lilyhammer), Steven is ready with his first record release in a decade with his fresh album ‘Soulfire’.
Steven has become a great friend to Notodden the last two years, showing his ongoing focus on Talent Development through the Rock and Roll Forever Foundation as well as Little Stevens Blues School. In this TALKIN’ BLUES session you can listen to Steven talk about his legendary career and why it is now more important than ever to encourage young people to play in a band.

SATURDAY AUGUST 5TH

13:00 - TALKIN’ BLUES with Trampled Under Foot
This popular sibling trio comprised of Danielle, Nick and Kris Schnebelen has a large fan base in Norway.  After they performed at Notodden for the first time 8 years ago, they have regularly come back to Norway to perform. The album “Live at Notodden Blues Festival” from 2010 was a major influence in establishing the band’s popularity in Norway, and when the band broke up a few years back, Norwegian fans were truly dismayed. Luckily they have decided to reunite this year to perform at a few chosen festivals – and Notodden is one of these!

15:00 - TALKIN’ BLUES with Tom Hambridge, Quinn Sullivan and Kingfish
Double Grammy Award winner Tom Hambridge is a songwriter and producer as well as drummer for many of America’s biggest artists that include Buddy Guy, Delbert McClinton, ZZ Top, Hank Williams Jr., Lynyrd Skynyrd, Meat Loaf, George Thorogood, Susan Tedeschi as well as previously for the late B.B. King and Johnny Winter. He also produced the debut album for the 18-year old Blues phenomenon Quinn Sullivan, who was discovered by Buddy Guy as an 8-year old.
Quinn Sullivan has been a semi-permanent guest at many Buddy Guy concerts during the past years, and will be onstage with his mentor at the Notodden Blues Festival this year. Quinn will also be at Notodden with his own band and fresh material.
Christone “Kingfish” Ingram will also be in place in Notodden and at TALKIN’ BLUES.  This young man is Mississippi’s next great Blues guitarist who has taken his inspiration from acoustic Delta Blues stars such as Robert Johnson, Elmore James, Muddy Waters and Lightnin’ Hopkins. Kingfish comes from Notodden’s sister city Clarksdale, and is a young talent we have followed for many years.
Both Quinn Sullivan and Kingfish are excellent examples of a new generation of Blues artists poised to take their rightful place in the genre. Tom Hambridge knows the Blues music branch inside and out. This TALKIN’ BLUES session will be an interesting conversation covering everything from recruiting new talents to tradition to creating new musical innovation.
